Historical Notes
It is important to acknowledge that the panoramas and images created by the project are
presented as only one interpretation of how the interior of the Guild Chapel and the wall
paintings may have looked during the 16th century. However, the research that was undertaken
at the core of the project enabled a 3d model to be created that was faithful to the
evidence and sources that were available. There are many aspects which can never be fully
accurately presented - the particular tones and hues of the paint for example. It is
impossible to tell without microscopic analysis of the surviving pigments exactly how the
colors would have looked.
The model is also presented with no church furniture; again it is impossible to tell from
existing sources what furniture was in the Chapel or how it was arranged, any attempt to
fill the Chapel with furniture or additional features would have gone against the core
principles of the project to produce a reconstruction based on the best available evidence
and the primary focus of the project was the wall paintings.
There are elements presented within the model that do need further explanation as to the
validity of their inclusion. Perhaps the most famous of the Guild Chapel's wall paintings
The Dance of Death was nearly omitted due to the uncertain accuracy of Puddephat's
interpretation which is the only recording of the painting in existence. Please use the
links to explore this topic further.
